❤❤❤❤ABSOLUTELY THE BEST DARK URBAN FANTASY SERIES OUT THERE. LAKEN WRITES ONE HELL OF A STORY❤❤❤❤
My initial review looked something like this…”OMG….WHOA…OMG…HOLY SMOKE (edited for Amazon…lol)…NOOOOOO don’t end there, I SERIOUSLY LOVE YOU LAKEN!” But I figured I better put a few more words into it ;-)
After the mind blowing (and quite heartbreaking) ending of The Witch’s Daughter, I found myself anxious yet slightly apprehensive to dive into the newest installment…Killing Land. As I listen to the most appropriate theme song in my head…”Where Do We Go From Here”, I dive into Book 8. It doesn’t take long for Laken to suck me back into here awesome world. I can honestly say I read the entire book in one sitting…no breaks…couldn’t afford to put the book down!! As with every book in this series, I truly loved the story. In some ways it is a bit different than the other books, maybe a bit lighter and with a bit of humor (I found myself dying laughing at some of Roma’s antics). However, it definitely was not lacking in the action and definitely had the Crew kicking some major a$$ which is indicative of Laken’s fantastic writing talent. I loved that we were able to see a bit more of other Crew members...Jack and Raze especially….I have a serious soft spot for Jack ;-) These guys are such amazing Crew members, all with a story of their own but were kind of overshadowed by Z, Berserker & Owen. It was also nice to see the character development of our new folks…Roma, Nikolai, Shiv Crow, Grim & the assassin (still wondering about this guy!). Oh hold the phone…and GUNNER…WTH?? And that’s all I’m going to say about that. I loved the story around Killing Land and the new supernatural creatures that the story brings forward. I am very interested to see how this plays out in the next book. And the ENDING….the ENDING….wait did I say the ENDING……WOWZA!! I soooo didn’t want it to end there, BUT I could kiss LAKEN on the lips for that one *MWAH* Bring on Book 9….I can hardly wait!!
In all seriousness, for lovers of dark urban fantasy, this series is one fantastic read. If I could give it more than 5 stars, believe me I would. I love that Laken knows exactly when to make things happen…she doesn’t hold back. One minute you think everything is going to be OK and you get that warm fuzzy feeling and then BAM! a new challenge presents itself and who the heck knows what might happen, because let me tell you….no one is safe in Laken's world! My best description of this series, it’s a dark urban fantasy that is action packed with a story that is built to knock your socks off. It is definitely the best rollercoaster ride of emotions you will ever take. Yes, there are cliffhangers (amazing cliffhangers) that will leave you thinking about all kinds of crazy scenarios in your head, but cliffhangers, when done right...make the book so much more fantastic. And the best part, it’s not your typical series, you won’t figure it out before the end and what you thought was going to happen probably WON’T. There just aren’t any guarantees for Rune & Shiv Crew for a HEA…it could happen, but hell who knows! So buckle up and hold on tight my friends because when you are in Laken's world, it promises to be one hell of a bumpy ride!!
Laken, know this…YOU ARE FREAKING AMAZING. Thank you for sharing your wonderful world with your fans. Forever your biggest FAN!
